            The 5 W's

WHO: I am Jana Olson, the Speech – Language Pathologist (SLP) for the Esko Schools serving students 4th through grade 12.

WHERE: I was born and raised in Northern Saskatchewan (great fishing and hunting area) on a large beef and grain farm. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Communication Disorders from Minot State University in Minot, North Dakota. I then completed my Master of Arts degree at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. As a Speech Language Pathologist I have experience in Adult Rehab working with stroke and traumatic brain injuries and in the public schools with birth through age 21. I have found that each age each group brings special opportunities to my day.

WHAT: In my spare time I love to be outdoors, hiking, biking, snow shoeing, curling, swimming and gardening. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends. My family and I love being at our cabin on Island Lake. When not there, we travel north to spend time with my parents and brothers. While up north my favorite thing to do that I haven’t found in Minnesota is attending the Chuck Wagon Races.

WHY: I became a Speech – Language Pathologist first of all because I love to talk and socialize! Secondly, I like to problem solve how to help students reach their full potential, and assist them in making the most out of their lives. I also really like working in a small group or individual settings. It is also great to be part of a team, to work on creating a positive, productive learning environment for the students.

WHEN: I joined the Esko team in 2006.
