Welcome to Kindergarten Packet

Welcome to Kindergarten!!

  STARTING EACH DAY
  • I am looking forward to getting to know your child and you! I hope this letter will answer some of your questions about your child’s year.

  • Fcrock

  • Each day your child should bring a backpack. This will help insure that all items get home. They should also have a “home folder” that will go back and forth each day. They will put their work in it and I will also put newsletters and any information for you in it as well.

  • Please send any important notes to me in this home folder. I will check these each morning.

ENDING EACH DAY

  • Your child will have a bus tag. Please have your child wear this tag until they are at ease with the bus ride. If your child is to go home from school on a different bus or is being picked up rather than riding the bus, please send a note! Our school requires a signed note from parents if there is a change in dismissal routine. I am otherwise obligated to follow the routine you originally agreed upon. If your plans change during the day, please call me or speak with Julie (879-3361). Make sure you speak with someone. Please do not rely on email! If I have a substitute or if computers are down, I want to make sure I get the information before the end of the day.

MEDICATION

  • If your child is on medication for some reason and he/she must take it at times during the day, you must send the medication in the original bottle with instructions on it to me and I will transfer it to the school nurse. The school nurse will give the medication to your child.

LEARNING CAN GET MESSY!

  • In kindergarten, learning requires involvement. Sometimes learning may become very messy. You can help relieve your child’s anxiety about getting messy, by having him/her wear clothes that will not be ruined should they become dirty.

  • From time to time I may ask the children to provide supplies for art projects. I will inform you through a note. I will also send a wish list from time to time. We can always use prizes for the prize box. Please do not feel like you have to send anything, but we can always use little extras. I do appreciate your support!

SHOES AND JACKETS

  • Gym shoes will be needed for Physical Education. Please label the shoes and expect them to stay in school. If your child wears sandals, please bring socks for P.E.

  • Our Minnesota weather, as you know, can change rapidly. Please put a jacket or sweater in your child’s bag each day. Please label all personal items.

  • Please no flip flops on the playground, they are so easy for children to get hurt on.

LUNCH, SNACK AND SPECIAL DAYS

  • Birthdays are a special time for the children. The children may bring a birthday treat for the class. Please make sure the treat is store bought.

  • We have a snack time each day. Your child will have a turn each month to be the snack helper. Please send a store bought healthy snack for the entire class on your scheduled date.  I will send a special helper calendar once a month (I will also send a reminder note the night before). This way all kids will have the same snack and no one will go without. Please let me know if your child has a food allergy!!

  • You may send a water bottle with your child.

  • Our school offers a breakfast and hot lunch option. Your child will be given a lunch account number. You can deposit money into this account by sending it with your child in an envelope with their pin number on it. Money will be collected on Mondays by the lunch staff. If you child comes home with a stamp on his/her hand that means lunch money is needed. You can look online at your balance anytime and also pay online.

  • I will be choosing a student to be V.I.P. (Very Important Person) each full week of school. I will be sending more information about this once school begins.

QUIET TIME

  • A little down time is very important for your child as they adjust to school all day. We will have a rest time each day. The children will be able to look at a book, listen to the quiet time music, work in their activity book, or rest.

SPECIALISTS AND BOOK ORDERS

  • Specialists we have during the week: physical education, library, computer and music.

  • Book orders will be sent home several times during the school year. If you decide to order, please make checks out to the book club.

DISCIPLINE POLICY

  • I will be using a clip chart in my classroom.  Students can move up or down depending on their behavior. There will be a daily sheet in your child’s home folder showing what color they end on. More information will be sent home on this.

VOLUNTEERING IN THE CLASSROOM!

  • Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering in the classroom. I can always use volunteers, especially during our center time.

IMPORTANCE OF KINDERGARTEN!

  • Kindergarten is a year of growing socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. Your involvement, interest and enthusiasm in your child’s every achievement will help make this a growing and wonderful year for everyone.
  • This will be such an exciting year! Thank you for all you do! Mrs. Zywicki
